Traffic, Road Conditions and Terrain

Traffic for most San Luis Obispo County wine country bike tour routes is variable. Some stretches are on remote roads that have little to no traffic. Some of the cycling route is on Highway One or other busier roads. Virtually all the stretches on busier roads like Highway One have large shoulders and/or marked bike lanes. Cyclists doing a SLO County wine country bike tour should be comfortable riding with traffic for certain shorter portions of the tour.

The terrain for SLO County wine country bike tour routes is variable. Most days will have some combination of relatively level riding mixed with a few sections of hillier riding. There are often ways to avoid cycling some of the larger hills. If you are cycling from the Paso Robles area out to the coast during the tour there is one longer climb, but it is very spread out and mostly gradual to moderate.  If you like riding hills, many of the optional rides are quite hilly. Cyclists doing a SLO County wine country bike tour should be comfortable riding some hillier sections.

Meeting Times and Logistics - Tour Start/End

For SLO county wine country self guided tours, you usually get yourself to the town of San Luis Obispo (SLO). If your tour is ending in SLO, usually no post trip shuttle is required.
