Self Guided Bike Day Trips

If you just need a bike or bikes and suggestions of where to ride along California's Central Coast or help in outfitting and planning a self guided California bike tour, we can provide that. We have both hybrid bikes and road bikes and deliver them right to you! Our rates are $50 per day per bike with a minimum charge of $200. Because we don't have a retail location, we bring the bike(s) to you and pick the bike(s) up when you're finished. We'll drop off and pick up bikes anywhere in San Luis Obispo County.

We can provide maps and sometimes even specific turn by turn directions, depending on where you want to go. We also provide helmets and enough instruction on how the bikes work to get you on the road. Just in case you get a flat, we also provide pumps, spare tubes and patch kits as well as a brief lesson on how to fix flats, if desired.

We do not provide on road assistance in case of flat tires or any other on road mishaps with our self guided bike tours. If you'd like that level of service, we suggest considering one of our guided bike day trips or other custom bike trips with vehicle support.

Great areas to do a self guided bike tour on the Central Coast include Avila Beach, Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria, the Edna Valley wine country near San Luis Obispo and the Paso Robles wine country area.

For multi-day self guided California bike tours we have found that cycling down the California coast is very popular. Self guided bike tours through local California wine country areas are also popular. We'll help design the itinerary for you and provide maps, directions, daily memos, bikes and all necessary gear such as helmets, pannier system, handlebar bags and repair kit for flat tires and other minor mechanical issues. We usually also provide hotel and restaurant recommendations and can even book hotels for a small booking fee. Please see our Sample Itineraries page for some trip ideas.

For our multi day self guided California bike tours, we have found that the most cost effective way to transport your own clothes and gear from one hotel to the next is via a seat post mount rack and pannier/bag system (see links below). This is a light to medium weight system designed to carry up to 20 lbs. of gear. It is not designed to carry the heavy loads that one might carry for a camping trip (please contact us for different options for camping trips). With careful packing you should be able to carry all your essential items in this pannier system on a hotel to hotel cycling trip. We can transport any extra luggage you may have to the end point of your self guided California bike tour. We have looked into taxis moving luggage on self guided bike tours down the California coast and can set this up, but it's usually not very cost effective (average cost is about $3.50 per mile). For most of our multi day self guided California bike tours, drop off and pick up of bikes and equipment is typically done for no extra charge.

We feature Norco Performance Bikes. You have the choice of a hybrid bike (VFR series) with upright handlebars or a road bike (CRD/ORD 2 series) with drop (racing style) handlebars. Both bikes are designed for efficient travel on the road and have Shimano components. Both styles have a map case attached (if desired) to the handlebars and the hybrids also have a rear rack bag to store gear. We stock a variety of frame sizes to fit your needs. Please supply your desired bike type, height and pedal preference when you reserve so we can pick the appropriate bike for you.
