Half Day Bike Tours

If a half day of causal bicycle riding through beautiful country is about your speed, then we have a series of California wine country bicycle tours and coastal guided bike tours for you.

    California Coast bike tour

All of our half day bicycle tours feature spectacular California scenery, top notch guides and a wonderful gourmet picnic lunch. These guided half day bike tours are a way to get some exercise and enjoy being pampered at the same time.

“We so enjoyed our bike ride along the Pacific Coast Highway... We want to compliment you on a wonderful experience from start to fabulous finish. Your knowledge of the area and surroundings was great. We loved the ride and the "no pressure" way of letting us ride at our own pace... The gourmet picnic lunch was out of this world. It was so pleasant and relaxing after the ride... If anyone asks us what's fun out there in California, you can be sure we will point them in your direction.”

Upgrade half day guided bike tours to include an afternoon of wine tasting by vehicle

Our half 'n half trips (a morning of cycling followed by an afternoon of wine tasting by vehicle) have been so popular, we are now extending this program to all our guided half day bike tours. For any of our half day bicycle tours, you can add an afternoon of wine tasting by vehicle for an additional $40 per person. We typically visit up to three wineries nearby the areas where we cycle. Tasting fees for three wineries throughout the afternoon (including the winery where we lunch, if relevant) are included. Please contact our office at 888-873-5610 for details.

Our Private Exclusive Tour Guarantee

All of our guided half day bike tours and California wine country bicycle tours are guaranteed to be private exclusive affairs. Once we meet you at the start of the tour, we are yours for the rest of the trip. Our guides will cater to your personal preferences and can change the tour (within reason) to fit your needs. No one else will be on the tour. Our minimum booking size is two people and our prices vary according to your group size. Treat yourself to our personalized service!

BIKING: Avila See Canyon - Half Day (Family Friendly)

Our Avila Beach See Canyon guided half day bike tour is our easiest and most family friendly bike tour. It's a diverse tour with a great combination of bike paths and scenic roads with coastal views, watchable wildlife and a few wineries as well. Our relatively easy cycling route starts near the trailhead for the Bob Jones City to the Sea Bike Trail and follows a scenic creek side bike path all the way to the picturesque seaside town of Avila Beach. Bicycling a short distance further along a classic beachside road, we come to Harford Pier, where local fishermen offer us their catch and sea lions cavort under the pier. Retracing part of our cycling route inland, we detour up See Canyon to Kelsey See Canyon Winery before ending with a gourmet picnic lunch at Avila Valley Barn (or an alternate location when the Barn is closed in winter). The cycling on this guided half day bike tour is relatively easy with much of it along a dedicated bike path and there are many non-winery attractions along the way. With so much to see and do in such a compact area, Avila Beach is truly an ideal destination for casual cyclists.

Unlike heavily impacted Napa and Sonoma, the Paso Robles wine country has plenty of small, friendly wineries featuring award winning red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Syrah as well as many relatively level roads with light traffic. Our wine country bicycle tour begins east of Paso Robles along a scenic road next to the Salinas River, passing bucolic ranches. Lohr and Le Vigne wineries as well as visit an historic adobe church and graveyard. This popular guided half day bike tour finishes with a complimentary wine tasting and gourmet picnic lunch at San Antonio Winery Paso Robles tasting room. The Edna Valley is a delightfully compact wine growing region just south of San Luis Obispo and is the perfect destination for a California wine country bicycle tour. Ringed with dramatic hills and closer to the ocean than Paso Robles, the wineries of the Edna Valley produce excellent Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. This guided half day bike tour of the Edna Valley meanders through rolling terrain in the heart of this picturesque vineyard filled valley with opportunities to taste wines at such award winning wineries as Saucelito Canyon, Kynsi, and Chamisal.

BIKING: Pacific Coast Highway - Half Day (Family Friendly)

We've cherry picked the best of the coastal riding in the area for this Pacific Coast Highway bicycle tour. After meeting in Cambria (or at your nearby hotel) we shuttle past Hearst Castle to Ragged Point. Climbing on our bikes, we cycle down an isolated and pristine stretch of the coast to Cambria, stopping to visit a colony of odd looking elephant seals along the way.

With just a few hills, but no major climbs, this Pacific Coast Highway bicycle tour is perhaps the easiest way to take in some of the world class scenery by bike that the area has to offer.

Central Coast Outdoors Bike Trip

A picnic lunch at a picturesque seaside park caps off an ideal Pacific Coast bike holiday. For families (or others) interested in a shorter ride that minimizes riding with narrow shoulders, we can do a shortened 13 mile version of this trip. This version eliminates the somewhat hillier stretch on the northern part of the route where the shoulders tend to be much narrower, but still gets to all the main attractions of the ride.

Distance 21 miles (short option 13 miles)
DifficultyModerately Easy
TerrainMostly level with some short ups and downs.

We do a similar version of this tour as a Morning Bike / Afternoon Wine Taste tour.

  2. Guide and route support.
  3. Printed directions for the ride and usually a map as well.
  4. Snacks and water.
  5. All necessary shuttles during the tour.

How do you determine difficulty ratings?

On our California guided half day bike tours, it is challenging to come up with a difficulty rating system that is relevant for everyone. A very fit cyclist might consider our "Moderately Strenuous" trips to not be hard at all, while someone who exercises infrequently or is not used to cycling might find a "Moderately Easy" tour to be quite a challenge. Our bicycle tour rating system is based on the approximate fitness level of a casual recreational cyclist who rides at least once per week and rides over fifteen miles on a regular basis. If you ride less or more than this, please adjust your expectations of the tour accordingly. To flesh out the rather subjective difficulty rating, we also include the distance for each guided bike tour and a terrain description. We are also available by phone to discuss the difficulty of any of our tours.

What bicycles do you provide with your tours?

We feature Norco Performance Bikes on our California guided half day bike tours. You have the choice of a hybrid bike with upright handlebars or a road bike with drop (racing style) handlebars. Both bikes are designed for efficient travel on the road and have Shimano components. Both bicycle styles have a map case attached to the handlebars and the hybrids also have a rear rack bag to store gear. We stock a variety of frame sizes to fit your needs. Please supply your desired bike type, height and pedal preference when you reserve a trip so we can pick the appropriate bike for you.

Will the guide cycle with us?

All of our guided half day bike tours except the Pacific Coast ride are loops designed so the guide can cycle with the group. The Pacific Coast Half Day trip is a one way trip down the coast, so the guide must stay with vehicle to shuttle riders to the start and have the lunch ready at the end.
